Perth layover guide for crew

Where crew eat late, get coffee, walk and recover on a Perth layover, plus the airport train, tap water, beach safety and the emergency number.

Updated 29 October 2026

Perth spreads along the Swan River, and the spots crew recommend fall into three groups: the CBD around St Georges Terrace and Murray Street, Northbridge just to the north, and the coast and Fremantle to the west. A short turnaround suits the CBD. A full day off gives you time for the coast.

Food, early and late

Northbridge is where crew find food after dark. Crew tag Bangkok Brothers on James Street, La Cholita on William Street and Palsaik Korean BBQ on Lake Street as late-night spots. Hakata Gensuke Chicken Ramen on Roe Street, in the same part of town, is a quick bite.

For an early start, crew pinned Mount Street Breakfast Bar in West Perth. Check the opening times in the app before you walk over. If your flight lands after the kitchens close, read our guide to late-night food after a late arrival.

Coffee

Three coffee pins sit within a few blocks of each other in the CBD: DripHouse on St Georges Terrace, Black Honey on Murray Street and Leeway Coffee in the Hay Street Mall.

A walk or something to do

Crew pinned Jacob's Ladder in West Perth, by Cliff Street, under walks and runs. They pinned Mettams Pool in North Beach as a beach and pool spot. It sits out on the coast, so allow time to get there and back.

Recovery

Alchemy Saunas has two pins, one on Northwood Street in West Leederville and one on Parry Street in Fremantle. Ember Bath House is on Donovan Street in Osborne Park. Crew list all three as spas. If you have no time to leave the CBD, our guide to staying active on a layover has short sessions you can do anywhere.

Getting around and staying safe

From the airport. Transperth tells visitors to take an Airport Line train to Airport Central Station, which joins Terminals 1 and 2 by the Skybridge. For Terminals 3 and 4, ride to Redcliffe Station and change to the free route 292 bus.

In the city. The Free Transit Zone covers trains and buses between City West, Elizabeth Quay and Claisebrook stations when you tag on and off with a SmartRider or contactless payment. The free CAT buses run at intervals of five to 15 minutes depending on the route and the time of day.

Taxis and rideshare. Both operate in Western Australia. The state Department of Transport requires all drivers and booking services to be authorised, and its website lets you look one up. Our guide to taxi and rideshare safety abroad covers the checks to make in any city.

At the beach. Surf Life Saving Australia's Beachsafe advice is to swim at a patrolled beach, between the red and yellow flags.

Tap water. Perth tap water is safe to drink. Western Australia's Chief Health Officer said in April 2025 that water from the state's drinking water suppliers is safe to drink, and the Department of Health regulates it against the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Our tap water guide covers other cities.

Emergency. Call 000. On a mobile, 112 reaches the same service. Our guide to emergency numbers for crew cities lists the rest.
